I had a great time last week photographing JR & Akikos cool 1920s prohibition inspired wedding celebration at the Back Room Bar in NYC. The back room is a speakeasy prohibition bar from the 1920s and was a really fun and beautiful location to celebrate the love between JR and Akiko.
Meeting in college and dating for the past five years, the couple got officially married last year at a dawn ceremony with just the two of them in Times Square. After a year they were ready to throw a celebration and include all their friends, family, and favorite things.
I met the couple around the corner from The Back Room at the Rivington Hotel where the couple got ready together, complete with JR tying up Akikos converse sneakers for her. After everyone was ready to go we headed over to the bar where 70 of their closest friends and family joined them for a intimate candle ceremony led by JR's uncle and an evening of celebration. The evening included a traditional Japanese wedding raffle from Akikos parents and live jazz music all evening by Akikos favorite NYC band the Lucky Chops. The night ended with more dancing and a beautiful Japanese inspired cake. It was the most unique wedding cake I have yet to see!
