Chris & Krissy enjoyed a relaxed french countryside inspired wedding day at The Ryland Inn in New Jersey. The two began their day getting ready at the venue with their bridal parties and then enjoyed a private first look outside on the grounds. With rain in the forecast for all the surrounding towns, The Ryland Inn magically stayed dry throughout the entire day. Their day was filled with custom details including signature cocktails, lawn games, and a giant wooden H guest book. The two tied the knot outside on the Ryland Inn's gorgeous patio and celebrated the evening with their many friends and family who traveled from afar. Krissy and her dad surprised all when they broke out in a special choreography during their father-daughter dance. We ended their night with a sparkler exit to commemorate the momentous day.
Our proposal was in Oak Island, North Carolina, at the local lighthouse. Krissy and I have been going to Oak Island for 8 years, as a type of traditional family vacation. The first year we ever went, we visited the lighthouse on Oak Island, and it almost became a staple of our trip to North Carolina every year thereafter. To avoid tipping Krissy off, I told her that I needed to take a photo in front of the lighthouse for my schools "Where in the World is..." project for teachers over the summer. I had Krissy take the photos from pretty far away (in order to get the entire lighthouse in the photo), and then called her over and proposed to make sure she was as surprised as possible. I chose the date July 2nd as the true Independence Day of the United States (American History Teacher Humor), as a day the United States embarked on a 250+ year journey, and highlighted the parallels of Krissy and I starting our own journey.
Our proposal was on my favorite beaches and overall favorite place ever, Oak Island, NC. Since I can remember, every summer my family and I went down to our house in South Port, NC. I first took Chris down to NC in 2010, a year after we started dating and he also fell in love with not only the beautiful beaches, but also the small-town, mom and pop feel of this town. July 2, 2017 Chris asked me to go to the lighthouse with him to get a school picture. His school has a program where they take pictures of where the staff have been and then it gets printed and put on a bulletin boards for the kids to see. I thought nothing of this and hopped in my Jeep and we were on our way. This light house is HUGE. In order to get Chris in the picture, I had to go across the street and into the dunes to get the perfect shot for him. After his 10 poses, I had enough and told him that we had to go since it was about 98 degrees outside. He said that we needed one more picture, reached into his pocket (I thought he was getting his iPhone) and then BAM. I was in complete and total shock! He pulled of the perfect surprise proposal and it could not have been in a better spot.
