Kari & Sal's Battery Gardens Wedding Photography: Battery Park, NYC
Kari & Sal enjoyed a classic New York City day for their summer wedding at the Battery Gardens in Manhattan. The day started early with an exchange of cards before their first look, including a copy of their vows they shared together in Colombia a few weeks prior. They initially met in Colombia and decided to go back and symbolically tie the knot in the place the met. After their first look, they enjoyed a vintage taxi cab ride through the city to their venue where they met their friends and family for their waterfront ceremony. The two initially were not going to have a ceremony here in New York, but decided last minute to surprise and invite all their guests for a ceremony overlooking the Hudson the day before the wedding. How exciting! The two tied the knot at sunset overlooking the Statue of Liberty and danced to the New York Swing Band for the rest of the evening.
I booked a last minute trip to go rock climbing in Colombia and celebrated NYE at The Charlee Hotel in Medellin. After bringing in 2016, I was talking with two British guys currently living in Newport Beach, CA when Kari walked up, I was totally taken aback, she looked like she was floating on air, so beautiful, classy, I immediately stood up, introduced myself. On New Years day, I ran into her again and spent several hours speaking with her like we had known each other forever. After returning to NY I couldn't get her out of mind and little over year half later after doing coast to coast I officially asked her to be my wife in Corona Del Mar!!!
It was a New Year's Eve party, I was in Colombia with friends, and the tequila shots were flowin'! As the waitresses passed out white balloons to every party goer, I wrote my wish for love on the paper and tied it to the string to be released into the universe at midnight. Cue the dark haired, blue eyed New Yorker that walked up and introduced himself to me approximately 10 minutes later. I didn't know it then, but in him, I would find everything I was looking for and didn't know I needed.
During one of his California visits in September, we walked to get coffee (tea for me) and being the social butterfly that I am, I ran into several friends along the way and invited them to join us on a walk down to the beach. Luckily, they declined, and as we casually talked about how happy we were together, Sal took a knee and asked me to be his wife. I had no idea that this typical morning walk down to the ocean would change my life and also my last name!
Kari's Wedding Planning Tip:
The ease of finding a reception location that handled the catering and set up was a huge relief. And YOU (Bri Johnson Weddings)! She is so thorough and forces us to think about details we otherwise wouldn’t have! Thank you!
