Second Photographers

I am incredibly excited to collaborate together and ever grateful for your support in helping me create the best experience possible for my wedding clients. I couldn't do this without you and want to ensure we are setting ourselves up a fun, stress free, and beautiful day. Below you'll learn more about how I work and what expectations I have for the day.

Expectations

1. Think like a first photographer

I love when my second photographers focus on creating amazing stand alone shots from each wedding day. I'm not looking for someone to simply shoot a second angle of the wedding day, but create images that can stand alone, are creative, and add to the entire wedding day story.

2. Be Proactive

Wedding days are crazy. It's incredibly helpful when a second photographer can be proactive without me having to guide them along every moment of the day. If I'm taking a photo of the bride alone and the groom is just hanging there, ask him if you can take a photo of him. I appreciate it so much when I don't have to manage every moment of the day.

3. Different View Points and Angles

One of the amazing benefits of having two photographers, is capturing a more well rounded view of the day. If I am shooting a long lens,  try to shoot with your wide lens to cover the event differently. If I am focusing on the bride and groom during speeches, try focusing on the guests and their reactions to the speeches as well. Make sure to focus on all the important family members throughout the day (grandparents, parents, siblings, etc).

4. Arrive Early & Sync Cameras

I will always arrive a minimum of 30 minutes prior to each wedding start time. More likely I am there an hour early to look around, prep cameras, and get in the right mindset for the day. We will need to sync our cameras times before we begin for the day so please plan to arrive at least 30 minutes prior to when we begin shooting. At this time I will also provide you with two 128GB SD cards to shoot to that I will collect at the end of the night. Please, make sure your cameras are set to Raw (I know I know, but its happened), auto rotate is on, you're shooting to record to multiple cards, and that filenames are naming continuously and not starting over every card.

5. Equipment

Weddings are incredibly important events to the client. Please make sure to bring professional and sufficient equipment needed to cover the wedding thoroughly. This includes having two full frame camera bodies and backup gear in case a piece of equipment malfunctions.

6. PASSION

Honestly, I love what I do. Not only do I want to create beautiful memories for each couple, but I want them to truly know how happy I am to be there and make sure they feel well taken care of. Don't forget to smile so they know you're happy to be there too!

7. Technical aspects

While we all photograph differently,  I want to ensure our clients receive the best quality photographs to remember their day by. Please keep ISO settings below 2500, white balances are set appropriately, and that flash is always used when needed. We want to avoid dark circles under everyones eyes. If you have specific questions please reach out! I'm happy to talk through anything.

Examples

Here are a few examples of photos my amazing second photographers have taken while working with me and in comparison what types of shots I am doing during the same time.

1. Getting ready

Most likely we will work together throughout the entire day so as not to miss any moments. During the getting ready section of the day I will spend the first part of the time photographing all the detail shots while you capture all the candid moments happening. From there on we will tag team photographing all the events from different angles and viewpoints.

Recommended Lenses: 24mm, 35mm, 50mm, and 100mm Macro.

Photographing The Groom Alone

If we have to split up in the morning you will photograph the groom and groomsmen getting ready. There are three main aspects I focus on and want to have photographed.

1. His Details

Please photograph anything and everything he is wearing. I typically create a horizontal mini still life of everything and photograph some pieces individually. Recommended Lenses 35mm, 50mm, 100mm Macro

Gift /Card Exchange

Please photograph (if applicable) the gift card exchange with the groom.

The First Look

During the first look we want to strategically plan who will be capturing who's expression. Typically, I take the Bride and you focus on the grooms expression as they turn towards one another. The biggest concern is to not cross shoot and end up in each others frame.

Recommended Lenses 35mm, 50mm, 100mm Macro

The Ceremony

The ceremony is great time for you to get creative, but also make sure we are not cross shooting. I love when you are able to capture the guests happiness and the event in a different way than me. It's great when you are able to capture the angles I cannot, especially the bride coming down the aisle from the back and embracing family who walked her down the aisle. I love when there's a balcony for you to capture a totally different angle of the ceremony from above!

Recommended Lenses 24mm, 35mm, 50mm, 100mm Macro, 70-200mm

Cocktail Hour & Details

Recommended Lenses 24, 35mm, 50mm, 100mm Macro

The cocktail hour is where we'll focus on covering the events documentary style, but also lots of candids and asking groups of people if we can take their photo. All the guests receive the wedding gallery so I like to make it my mission to photograph every single guest :) And hopefully they find a photo or two of themselves they want to enjoy in their home. Typically Bri will tackle the reception room details, while you capture some cocktail decor details, but mostly cocktail hour candids and group shots.

I strongly recommend following the bride and groom during cocktail hour to catch them with their guests.

Reception & Cocktail Decor

If you have to photograph the reception and cocktail hour decor, please make sure to photograph wide establishing shots of the room and decor (make sure to politely ask any servers to move if they are in the shot), and detail shots of ALL custom decor, including flowers, napkins, menus, signs, favors, cake, signs, cocktail signs, matches, cups, etc. Please make sure to shoot all details shots with lots of depth in the photo and the decor up front in focus.

The reception is where we'll focus on covering the events documentary style, but also lots of candids and asking groups of people dancing and chatting if we can take their photo. All the guests receive the wedding gallery so I like to make it my mission to photograph every single guest :) And hopefully they find a photo or two of themselves they want to enjoy in their home.

There will be an ipad where guests can enter their email to receive the photos after the wedding day. Please let guests know they can see their photos by signing up.
